Texturing the hotel room

I’ve been working on texturing the hotel room and it’s mainly done. The issue I’m having right now is with the lighting but I’m sure I’ll manage to fix the problem soon. After having a meeting with Roma I took a few ideas and I’ve changed the small wall into a sliding room partition and given it a curved shape to fit in with the room theme, as well as changing the shape of the canvas above the bed to match the mirrors in the bathroom which I think works really well. The texturing is adding to the feel of the room and I’m please with how the room is progressing. Here’s a few images of the room textures.

I was unsure of what flooring to use so I’ve tried a few options and for now decided on square floor tiles.

I’m also not sure what to use for the bath stand, I wanted to have wood features in the bathroom but I didn’t like wooden walls, I’ve tried wood on the bath stand and I think it works well but so do the floor tiles.

The wood texture works really well for the side with the sinks on and I’ll definitely be keeping this.

Here’s an image of the canvas above the bed, since I rendered this image I have smoothed out the circles.

Here’s the room partition fully across the room, I’ve not textured it yet but I’m thinking of taking some inspiration from the sliding doors below.

Car Advert

This is the car advert that made me think about how the background and environment affects the believability of the 3D model, although the realism of this may also be affected by the hand but just focusing on the model. From feed back today I think camera tracking and angles have a lot to do with how believable the model is.

Hotel Gadgets and Progress

All the modelling is complete, although I need to arrange my second meeting with Roma for next week or the week after. I’m moving on to texturing and lighting next week to finish the room off. I’ve also been gathering information on the technology and gadgets that are going to be used in my room concept. In my last post I mentioned using glass that changes a the flick of a switch, I’ve now found that this is called switchable liquid crystal glass and one company they sell it is Elmont Glass. I’ve also researched into wake up lighting, which a few companies produce but Lumie seem to provide the best, their lighting can be found here, the lights help people get to sleep as well as wake them up in the morning using lighting to recreate a sunrise, along with natural wake up sounds, this way of waking up is better for the body and eases the person into waking up naturally. I watched a programme on channel 4 the otehr day called Home of The Future, they had transformed a family’s home into a modern home, this home had many different and useful gadgets, inlcuding the control systems I have been looking into for my hotel room concept, this link will explain more on the system.

Here’s some images of the room as it’s looking now:

Progress on the hotel room!

I’ve been modelling away when I get time and I’ve almost got the room fully modelled, yay! I’ve just got a few tiny finishing touches, so here’s how its looking for now. I’ve decided to keep with a simple modern theme that the glass doors leading to the balcony will be glass that can be switched from transparent to opaque at the click of a switch (I remember seeing this on a house design programme), this will save having annoying blinds or curtains but it will also mean light can be blocked out easily. I’ve given the bathroom and wardrobe doors frosted translucent glass so the room feels larger and more open plan. Here’s some recent images of my work so far.

The circles above the bathroom sinks are going to be mirrors, i got the idea from the image below. I have a round, curved theme going around the room and I liked how the circle mirrors looked similar to bubbles, with a contemporary feel. I also decided to have a long mirror in the bedroom that wasn’t a conventinial shape but more curved to fit in with the style of the suite. The shape of the mirror came from the other image below.

Artefact 2

Well my first artefact wasn’t brilliant and I was going to try to create something real but after seeing a car advert I started to think about environments and if they can effect how realistic a 3D model can look. I now cant remember what car the advert was for but when I find out I’ll make sure to post it. The advert shows the model of the car being moved along different backgrounds and then the same model at the end on a black background, on the black background the model looks realistic, although in the the other scenes it doesn’t look so real.

For my artefact I have created a few images and I want to ask the focus group which is move believable and see if the background environments make a difference and how the group thinks this effects the believability of a 3D model. Before Monday I may have a few more images to give a wider range but for now I have one on a real photo background, one on a 3D modelled background and another on a black background. I’ve noticed that I personally think the model looks more genuine on the 3D modelled background than in the real photo background.

Bathroom modeling

I’ve been working on the bathroom for my client project, I think it’s coming along well. All I need to add now I think are the sinks and a mirror. I’m also going to add the little bathroom accessories when the sink area is complete, I’ll be adding cups, soap, complementarity toiletries and towels to give the room the finishing touches. I’m looking forward to texturing the hotel room to see the complete look of the models and then I can adjust the basic lighting in the rooms. I should be onto texturing this time next week and lighting the week after that. Here’s a couple of images of how the bathroom is looking.

Hotel Room

I’ve been working on modelling my hotel room for my client project. I’m trying to bring a modern feel to the room as well as making it feel comfortable and spacious. Here’s a few images of how the model is coming along. I’ve got quite a bit of detail to add to the room but the general basics are there. The first image is a view from when the guest enters the room and the second shows the bedroom area of the room.
